Our Theme: Change
Our school wide theme this year is change. We have chosen this theme as it fits very well with all the changes we will be going through with our new building works later in the year.
This term we are looking at the changes in temperature, ourselves as we grow up and through our trip to MOTAT changes in communication. We will be writing to the grandparent or family friend you have given us the address for to find out information from them and to tell them what we have been learning in school.
We welcome parents to bring in any old communication equipment such as type writers, old mobile phones any information on different methods of communication such as morse code, flags, smoke signals etc

15 Nohinohi –Topic work will be around the Marae trip (Please note the Marae visit is 15 Nohinohi trip for the term)
Things to do at home
  • Practise learning the sounds and names of letters
  • Reading and listening to stories each day- parents to complete the comments box
  • Maths activity and poem weekly

Making and creating: is held in each class on a Friday afternoon. Parents are welcome to come along to help or to run an activity. Please see your class teacher if you are available. We are always on the lookout for small cardboard boxes, bottle tops, caps etc., please check the class notice board or the class teacher if you have anything that might be suitable.
Lunchtimes
Children have settled well into school routines and are remembering to put all their rubbish in their lunch boxes to take home with them. This allows you to see what they eat or have not eaten. Please talk to your child about the items they could eat for morning tea or lunch before they come to school. That way they will not eat all their lunch at morning tea time.
If your child has a problem during the morning break or at lunch play, please encourage them to come and tell a duty teacher (we wear a bright orange jacket and we are always around!). Please see the class teacher if you have any concerns.

Making and creating and Discovery Learning: Parents are welcome to come along to help or to run an activity at these sessions. Please see your class teacher for days and times if you are available. PMP: stands for Perceptual Motor Programme.
The children do lots of activities with their bodies using equipment we don’t always use in our normal PE programme. The children learn balance, co-ordination, a sense of balance and space, rhythm, memory skills, eye tracking and problem solving. It has been proven that all these skills help our learning from improving our reading to helping our handwriting. The children absolutely love doing it! Thanks to all the parents who have volunteered to support us at PMP. We need all the help we can get to run this programme. If you are interested in helping please feel free to email Mandy Tubman at mandy.tubman@xtra.co.nz to discuss the days/ times you are available.

Cross country:
This is due to be held on Thursday the 10th of May. We encourage children to have a go and that it is a positive experience to help keep us fit and healthy. Last year it was extremely hot- so please check the weather forecast on the day and dress your child appropriately. The Juniors will head back to school for lunch but will need their play lunch (preferably in a separate bag or container so they don’t need to carry the whole lot down to the park) and a drink bottle, hat, sunscreen, rain jacket (if it is appropriate) and most importantly shoes that are suitable for running in! Thanks for all the support with marshalling and help on the day to walk to and from the park.

Lunchtimes
We ask that all children put their rubbish in their lunch boxes to take home with them to help our school become litter free. This also allows you to see what they eat or have not eaten. Please talk to your child about the items they could eat for morning tea or lunch before they come to school. That way they will not eat all their lunch at morning tea time. Children need to show a teacher their lunch box before they can go to play at lunchtimes to help us check they have eaten enough.
If anything is worrying your child during the morning break or at lunch play, please encourage them to come and tell a duty teacher (we wear a bright orange jacket and we are always around!) that way we can quickly solve any issues. Please see the class teacher if you have any concerns.

Junior Team Assembly
This Term the Year 1 children will be running our Junior Assemblies. Parents and families are welcome to attend these assemblies in the school hall which begin at 2:15. During the assemblies run by the classes we will also give out certificates. On the alternate Mondays we have our junior singing assemblies.
